Day-by-day itinerary

Welcome to Las Vegas

Valley of Fire, then heading to Utah
Las Vegas → Zion National Park
Pickup of camping equipment, then departure to Utah and its five major national parks.
First stop at Valley of Fire State Park: desert landscapes, brightly colored rocks and ancient petroglyphs, to discover on numerous trails.
Then heading towards the red sandstone cliffs of Zion National Park.
Camping accommodation in the park or at its entrance, for 2 nights.
Hiking: 3 hours

Hiking in Zion
No car needed: a free shuttle serves the entire canyon.
Flagship hike: the Narrows, a gorge carved by the Virgin River, partly hiked with your feet in the water (3 to 16 km depending on your level).
Alternative: the Emerald Pools – lower basin (1.9 km round trip), lower and middle basins (3.2 km round trip) or all three basins (4 km round trip). The first two trails are wide and easy; the climb to the upper basin is more challenging (sand and rocks).
Hiking: 3 hours
Optional: Equipment rental for the Narrows, canyoning, electric bike rental

Hiking in Bryce Canyon
Zion National Park → Bryce Canyon
Road to Bryce Canyon National Park, famous for its "hoodoos", these colorful rock chimneys that form a spectacular backdrop.
Trails for all levels: on the canyon rim for panoramic views (Sunrise Point, Sunset Point, Inspiration Point) or down into the amphitheater for total immersion.
Common wildlife: deer, coyotes, eagles.
Bryce's sky is renowned: take advantage of an evening of stargazing. Mountain biking and horseback riding are possible.
Hiking: 3 hours
Optional: Rodeo

The Scenic Byway 12
Bryce Canyon → Capitol Reef
Drive from Bryce to Capitol Reef National Park via Route 12, considered one of the most beautiful roads in the United States: a succession of plateaus and multicolored rock formations.
Possible hike at Calf Creek (flat trail, Ancestral Puebloan ruins: petroglyphs, granaries) with swimming at Calf Creek Falls, or on the Grand Wash, Cassidy Arch and Frying Pan trails.
Hike: 3 hours

Capitol Reef, then Moab
Day at Capitol Reef National Park, one of the five parks in Utah: deep canyons, colorful cliffs and a dome-shaped relief reminiscent of the Capitol.
Hikes for all levels: 3 hours
Optional: Zip-lining, rock climbing, canyoning, kayaking, rafting, biking

Arches and Canyonlands
The Arches National Park is the kingdom of sandstone arches. Recommended stops: The Windows and Double Arch. Hikes to Delicate Arch, Utah's emblem (approximately 5 km), or into Devil's Garden and its eight arches, including the longest in the world (8 km).
Then, Canyonlands National Park, Island in the Sky sector: viewpoints Grand View Point, Green River Overlook and Mesa Arch; trails Upheaval Dome and Aztec Butte.
The Colorado River runs through the park and is suitable for rafting (to be booked in advance, depending on water levels).
Hiking: 4 hours

Monument Valley – the Far West
Road to Monument Valley, in Navajo territory, setting for many Westerns.
Emblematic sandstone monoliths: Three Sisters, Totem Pole, Yei Bi Chei, Merrick and Mitchell Buttes, John Ford Point.
Hiking possible on the Wildcat Trail and short walks to John Ford Point or Cly Butte.
Hiking: 2 hours
Optional: Jeep tour, horseback ride (2 hours)

Lake Powell and Horseshoe Bend
Road to Page, near the Lake Powell, reservoir created by the Glen Canyon Dam.

Must-see: Horseshoe Bend, the horseshoe-shaped meander of the Colorado.
Also worth seeing: Upper and Lower Antelope Canyon, accessible only via guided tour.
Hiking: 3 hours
Optional: Antelope Canyon, kayaking or boat tour on Lake Powell, kayaking + hiking, kayaking at Horseshoe Bend

Hikes in the Grand Canyon
Full day on the south rim, by shuttle.

More accessible: the Rim Trail, which runs along the south rim and its viewpoints, to be completed in full or in sections.
Hiking: 4 hours
Optional: Grand Canyon helicopter tour

Las Vegas or Nature Hikes
On the nature side: Red Rock Canyon, less than 30 minutes away, and its over 20 trails for all levels; or the more challenging hike to Gold Strike Hot Springs and its hot springs.
