The City of Sacramento

·

California's capital and the farm-to-fork capital of the États-Unis, Sacramento blends Far West heritage with contemporary living between Old Sacramento, Midtown, and the Tower Bridge.

Sacramento, California's capital, is a generous city. Here, everything intertwines: public parks and museums, amusement parks, boutiques, breweries, and fine dining establishments. The old town, affectionately called Old Sacramento, transports you back to the era of the Old West. Pro tip: keep an eye on the steam train schedule for a complete immersion in Far West atmosphere!

History

In 1839, John Sutter's arrival on the banks of the Sacramento River marked the city's earliest chapters. The wealthy merchant built a wharf around which the settlement developed during the Gold Rush beginning in 1848. Officially founded as a city in 1849, Sacramento supplied gold seekers for many years, until deposits dwindled and agriculture took over. Today, in addition to being the State capital, it's a premier tourist destination, steeped in Far West spirit.

Discovering Sacramento

In Sacramento, you'll notice many contrasts, but that's precisely what gives this dusty-past town its charm. Farm trucks and gleaming sedans cross paths in its streets. Surrounded by vast suburbs, modern and imposing structures illustrate urban growth. You'll also find chic lofts and shops, alongside retro boutiques.

Where to Begin Your Sacramento Adventure?

Start your fantastic journey around the California State Capitol. After enjoying the museum housed in the State building, head west toward Old Sacramento. There, relive the Gold Rush atmosphere by walking on wooden sidewalks or taking a horse-drawn carriage ride. Catch a glimpse of the Pony Express Statue, then continue to the California State Railroad Museum to discover American railroad history. After this cultural interlude, treat yourself to a riverboat cruise on the gentle Sacramento River to savor the city's landscape in peaceful tranquility.
